That Afternoon

The arthouse feature That Afternoon is a powerful debut about two refugees—each on opposite sides of a door. Like a mathematical construction, an endless number of perspectives unfold within the confined space. – NRC

Director Nafiss Nia is not only a filmmaker but also a poet, and it shows. Emotions are expressed in multiple, beautiful ways: in the moving close-ups of Roya, portrayed with strength by Niku, and in the evocative music of Farid Sheek. His score, wistful and haunting, plays a vital role in the film, guiding Roya spiritually back to her homeland. Emotions are given space to breathe, as each scene is allowed to unfold in its own time. – Cinema Magazine
