The Journey

Farid Sheek (Sheikhbahaei) is a composer and performing artist based in Rotterdam. He was born in 1994 in Isfahan, Iran, into a family of musicians. His father, a renowned Iranian artist, introduced him early on to the sounds of Persian classical music. Farid began playing piano at the age of eight, but soon found a deeper calling in the daf, a traditional Persian frame drum. Over the years, he became a virtuoso on the instrument, known for his expressive control, rhythmic precision, and emotionally resonant performances.

Between 2009 and 2011, he studied daf percussion and composition at the Music Academy of Isfahan, with a strong focus on Persian musical tradition. After relocating to the Netherlands in 2011, Farid continued his artistic development through formal education. He studied music production and composition at the Albeda College (AMP - Artist Musician Producer), where pop music formed the core of his training. As a contract student, he also studied composition at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg, with an emphasis on both Western classical and contemporary music. He further enriched his rhythmic practice through percussion and drum lessons with Erik Hoeke (Conservatory of Amsterdam).

Farid’s work is known for transcending genres and borders. His compositions create bridges between Persian music, Western classical traditions, jazz, and modern soundscapes. His artistic language is rooted in connection: musical, cultural, and emotional.

In 2024, Farid composed a new orchestral work inspired by Gordafarid, the legendary female warrior from the Shahnameh. The piece was performed by Het Noordpool Orchestra and acclaimed vocalist Mojgan Shajarian. He also composed the original music for Roya Was Here, a film that was nominated for the Feminist Impact Award in the Netherlands.
