This program places beautiful music at its heart, enriched with storytelling. As the grandson of a Persian Sufi master, Farid Sheek seeks to bring cultures and faiths closer together through music. “The main goal of my compositions is to merge the beauty of Western and Eastern music. During this concert, the world is experienced as one whole,” says Farid Sheek.
Persian Music
Farid Sheek performs on the daf, the frame drum whose distinctive rhythms form the heartbeat of Sufi music. From Vienna, Danial Moazeni plays the tar (a Persian string instrument), while Mahan Mirarab adds the warm tones of the fretless guitar. Completing the picture, Rasha Vrede brings an extra dimension to the performance with her Sufi dance.
East Meets West
In the second half, Western musician Maya Fridman joins on cello. Together, the four musicians and the dancer create a fusion of cultures, blending traditions into a living dialogue. Much of the performance is based on improvisation, allowing the music to flow freely between East and West.
