Just a stone’s throw away from De Doelen, he spent countless hours playing the piano. Yet the leap from the Central Plaza shopping center across from Rotterdam Central Station to the grand concert hall seemed unbridgeable for twenty-something Farid Sheek. Having fled his homeland Iran, where he had studied at the conservatory, Farid was simply grateful to be able to play.

At Central Plaza, Farid performed his own compositions—music filled with longing and passion, yet always managing to uplift the listener. In his melancholy lies a deep beauty. Shopkeepers loved his playing and kept inviting him back. Sometimes, people hurried past on their way to catch a train or bus. More often, they stopped to listen. Farid never accepted the money they tried to give him. Music is meant to be shared, not earned from.
That autumn, a journalist from Algemeen Dagblad happened to hear him play. His life story appeared in the newspaper, where he confessed his greatest wish: to one day perform at De Doelen. Now, that dream is coming true.
Farid Sheek will perform his own work, together with a cellist. It promises to be a special moment—for him, and for everyone listening. Experience a concert where a long-cherished dream finally comes true.
